Hormone secreted by the chorionic villi of the placenta in mammals, especially human chorionic gonadotropin.
Notes:
  1. Chorionic gonadotropin promotes the secretion of progesterone by the corpus luteum.
  2. Human chorionic gonadotropin is the hormone that is detected by pregnancy tests.
