Maintenance in vitro of fresh prepared slices of the hippocampus.
Notes:
  1. Vital cultures can be kept for weeks and maintain structure and neuronal functions ("organotypic").
  2. Useful for many types of brain research including electrophysiological, biochemical and morphological measurements in studies of neurotoxicity.
