Ratio of the exposure/concentration of a therapeutic agent that causes beneficial effects to that which causes the first observed adverse effect.
Note: A commonly used measure of therapeutic index is the toxic dose of a drug for \(\pu{50\%}\) of a population divided by the minimum effective dose for \(\pu{50\%}\) of a population.
