Circulating granular leukocyte (granulocyte) having prominent granules that stain specifically by eosin and containing numerous lysosomes.
Notes:
  1. Eosinophils are important effector cells in immune reactions to antigens that induce high levels of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies (e.g., parasites).
  2. Eosinophils are also abundant at sites of immediate-type hypersensitivity reactions.
