<text>Describing repetitive motifs of molecules such as lipopolysaccharide (LPS), peptidoglycan, lipoteichoic acids, and mannans, which are widely expressed by microbial pathogens but are not present on host tissues. They are therefore utilized by the pattern recognition receptors (PRRs) of the immune system to distinguish pathogens from self-antigens.</text>
