Preparation from tissue or cells, in which the membranous elements, generally the cell membrane, are enriched in relation to other cellular constituents.
Notes:
  1. These are obtained by disruption of the cells and differential centrifugation or other techniques to isolate the desired components.
  2. Cell membrane preparations are the standard biological material for receptor binding assays. Cell membranes are typically lipid-rich.
