      <text>Part of an external quality assurance program for assessment of an analytical method or test. A reference institute sends identical samples, which have to be analyzed or tested for specified parameters, to a number of different laboratories. The laboratory has a deadline before which to provide results. Statistical evaluation and interpretation of the results permits assessment of the reliability of the methods used and a comparison of the laboratories’ proficiency.</text>
      <notes>
        <item>For accreditation of laboratories, regular participation in ring tests is obligatory, but accreditation is not essential for participation in the tests.</item>
