Arylmethyl groups and derivatives formed by substitution: $\ce{ArCR2^{–}}$, Benzyl, $\ce{C6H5CH2^{–}}$, is the prototype. The term 'benzylic position' or 'benzylic site' refers to the saturated carbon atom. A group, such as $\ce{–OH}$, attached at a benzylic site is sometimes referred to as 'benzylic'.
