A molecular entity capable of accepting a hydron (proton) from an acid (i.e. a 'hydron acceptor') or the corresponding chemical species. For example: $\ce{OH−}$, $\ce{H2O}$, $\ce{CH3CO2^{−}}$, $\ce{HSO4^{−}}$, $\ce{SO4^{2−}}$, $\ce{Cl^{−}}$.
