Class of immunoglobulin (Ig) characterized by
\(\upmu\) heavy chains.
Notes: - It is the first immunoglobulin to appear on the surface of B cells and the first to be secreted.
- Unlike other immunoglobulins that exist in the monomeric (IgA, IgD, IgE, and IgG) or dimeric (IgA) state, IgM is found in the blood as a pentamer.
